DIY: Do-It-Yourself Christian Louboutin Tape Dispenser
So I got inspired by this post on ThePurseForum and decided to follow suit right then and there.
I went straight to Amazon and the Black Stiletto Shoe Magic Tape Dispenser by Scott was on sale for $5.05 (I ordered it Saturday night and it arrived Tuesday morning, thanks Amazon Prime!) - it's now down to $4.80! Get it while it's hot!
Line up all your art materials:
- Red Paint: Acrylic or Oil (or Red Nail Polish)
- Paintbrush
- Tissues
- Paint Sealer (or Clear Nail Polish)
The tricky part is the heel and the angled notch because the clear round base of the heel gets in the way of the brush. I couldn't get a good angle with any sized brush, so I was forced to make horizontal strokes on the heel itself, whilst making vertical lines down the rest of the "outsole." After a few coats, I just brushed over the horizontal lines with the best vertical ones I could make to blend it all and make the paint lines as smooth as possible. The good thing about the acrylic is that if you paint "outside the lines," you can easily wipe or scratch the paint from the side of the "shoe" until you get perfect edges for the red sole. Just play around and have fun!
If you do choose to go with acrylic paint, I would suggest using a paint sealer like the Krylon Make It Last!® Clear Sealer or the Blair Gloss Spray... I wouldn't use hairspray just because it may make the tape dispenser sticky and you really don't want something on your desk attracting dust. I've also heard that hairspray may eat through the acrylic over time - haven't tried it myself so I can't say this from experience. I didn't have any paint sealer and this was a last-minute project, so I have left it unsealed for now. I made about 4-5 coats and at this point it'll take a lot to scratch off... hopefully.
Voila! You got yourself a fun, fashionable and ~practical~ addition on your desk to show your co-workers just how crazy about Loubs you are! :)
